Skate Sharpening & Blade Profiling. Lets keep it simple.
Hollow Grind is the degree of sharpness that's cuts into the width of a 3mm skate blade. Hollow is based on diameter of a ONE INCH CIRCLE.
Smaller the circle, deeper the hollow cut.
ex: "THREE EIGHTS"
Larger the circle, the flatter the hollow cut.
ex: "FIVE EIGHTS"
with other hollows in and between.
Blade Profile Facts:
is the portion of skate blade that actually contacts ice. Contact points can be altered to be made longer (9 FOOT RADIUS) or shorter (7 FOOT RADIUS).
What's best for you ?
We've customized thousands of player skate blade pivot points and our service pays immediate dividends.
It allows you to cut ice easier & more agility in transitioning.
Transitionally, you skate stronger, you'll cut stronger and will likely hold an edge longer between sharpening.
HOCKEY IS 100% BLADE TRANSITION.
When the puck is turned over in the neutral zone, you need to change direction fast. You need CORRECT blade pivot point positioning and you need LESS of it.
The next time you hear a rookie with a skate machine (who has never even played hockey) tells you that you need a 13 FOOT RADIUS, think again - and take a good look at the guy.
Undisputedly, longer "contact points" such as a 13 FOOT RADIUS, restricts your mobility and does not make you faster. Stop being misinformed.
